Chris Sutton cleared over Rangers vs Celtic commentary after OFCOM complaints
After calling Matt O’Riley “some balls” during the Old Firm broadcast, Chris Sutton was CLEARED by OFCOM.
While serving as co-comms for the Ibrox match earlier this month, the Celtic hero was astounded when O’Riley had the guts to give Panenka a penalty kick to put his team ahead by two goals. However, a Rangers comeback resulted in a 3-3 draw in the rivalry. With the stakes so high, Sutton lauded the Danish midfielder for having the fortitude to deliver such a cheeky spot kick.
At the moment, he added, “What nerve from Matt O’Riley.” Panenka. That takes courage. Although Celtic hasn’t had much success with penalties this year, you’ll need to have some balls to win this match.”
Three viewers complained about the statements, namely the portion about “some balls.”
However, OFCOM concluded that the statement did not violate their policies and did not even feel that more research was necessary.
A spokeswoman stated: “A brief remark made during the game’s commentary did not raise issues warranting investigation under our rules.”
