Journalist Alan Nixon reports that Ipswich Town will reward goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky for his excellent play

this season with a new, long-term deal.

The 33-year-old had to cover for Christian Walton, who had originally arrived on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion,

when he joined the Tractor Boys in 2021. Six months after he made an impression on his loan, Ipswich agreed

to a permanent deal, and he was first choice when the team won promotion from League One the following season.

Nevertheless, he had an injury prior to the start of the Championship campaign, which gave Hladky an

opportunity to shine in goal. When Kieran McKenna’s team swept the second division, the Czech proved his

worth, and the manager was forced to keep him on when his first-choice shot stopper returned.

The Suffolk-based team is still vying for a spot in the Premier League for the first time in 22 years as well as

consecutive promotions. With three games left, Hladky is currently in second place in the league thanks to their

14 clean sheets in 43 league matches.

The contract for the former Salford City goalkeeper expires at the end of the current campaign, but Nixon said a

new agreement is anticipated. Hladky would be more than pleased to accept Ipswich’s offer of up to three more

years, as it has been indicated. Walton might also be forced to explore for fresh pastures in his quest for first

team football as a result of this.

The 28-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, though there is a one-year extension

option. There will undoubtedly be a long line of clubs eager to hire him if he decides to leave Portman Road.

Last season, he broke the record by going 646 minutes without giving up a goal.

This weekend, Ipswich was scheduled to play Coventry City. But as they get ready for a pivotal few weeks,

McKenna’s team has been given a rare weekend off thanks to the Sky Blues’ shenanigans in the FA Cup.
