The 66-year-old, who ran a football consultancy advising elite clubs after serving as CEO at

Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, stated the Whites could pose a “huge problem” for clubs if

they fail to make their arrears. He made this claim on the most recent episode of Football

Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

Sheffield United will lose two points the next season if they are relegated from the Premier League,

and an additional two points will be suspended until the end of the 2024–25 season, according to

an announcement made by the EFL on April 11.

It has come to light that the Blades’ failure to pay almost £9 million in transfer fees was the

reason for the punishment.

Leeds United, the Championship’s front-runners for promotion, disclosed in their most recent

2022–2023 reports that they owe other clubs over £190 million in unpaid payments.

In addition, the Whites reported £189 million in revenue and a total loss of £33 million.

Leeds face ‘very serious issue’ after Sheffield United points deduction confirmed

Wyness asserted that if Leeds decides to emulate Sheffield United, the “danger is very big.”

He stated on the Insider Track podcast of Football Insider: “It appears that the Sheffield

United owner is the only one responsible for this punishment.

Cash flow problems must be the cause, as such things do occur in businesses.

But there’s a serious risk that if teams cease supporting one another,

“When I was at Everton, we faced a similar problem with Italian clubs, and we had to go to FIFA tribunals.

When you budget for those payments and then all of a sudden find yourself short of money,

it becomes a serious problem.

Don’t be misled by the issue’s size; it is a very severe one. This time, Sheffield United paid

£8 million, which won’t break the bank.

“However, it could be a major issue for clubs if a larger club, like Leeds, who owe £190 million,

doesn’t make the payments.”

Leeds United is expected to accept a £30 million bid for their star player.
