Celtics player likened by Scott Brown to Virgil van Dijk

Over the years, Celtic has had several outstanding players in their ranks. Virgil van Dijk is the one who, in this millennium, may have left the club and gone on to enjoy the most success.

When he came to the team in 2013 from FC Groningen, not many people knew him. The captain of the Netherlands and Liverpool teams is regarded as one of the greatest center backs in league history.

Van Dijk has since achieved nearly every goal at Liverpool. Along with the Anfield team, he has won multiple League Cups and the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Community Shield, and more.

He was merely beaten by Lionel Messi to take home the Ballon d’Or. Interestingly, it appears that Scott Brown compares Van Dijk to Cameron Carter-Vickers, the center defender for Celtics at the moment.

According to talkSPORT, Brown stated the following on Van Dijk:

“He was like [Cameron] Carter-Vickers at the back, we could leave him one-v-one and the rest of us just ran forward.”

That is, of course, really high praise for Carter-Vickers. To have someone who genuinely played with the Dutchman for a few seasons and served as his captain at Celtic compare you to someone like Van Dijk.

It goes without saying that Carter-Vickers, who has actually been with the team longer than Van Dijk, has been able to leave his own legacy at Celtic Park.

The foreign player from America will soon wrap up his third campaign with the Hornets.

This one has had numerous issues with injuries. However, Carter-Vickers seems to have moved past those problems and has resumed playing football consistently in the last few months.

He has even been trusted with the captain’s armband while Callum McGregor is away. With any luck, he will win the league title for the third time in a row to end the season.
