Even while it wouldn’t be ideal to be a top English team’s second choice, joining those teams

could be a step towards someday becoming the team’s first choice.

A transfer to Celtic would also give him access to European football, which would be very alluring

given that he would probably be Parkhead’s first pick.

It would be beneficial for him to stay at the Stadium of Light and continue his development under

the incoming head coach, though, as Sunderland is offering tremendous experience of their own

and has the desire to contend for a Premier League return.

Celtic join Liverpool and Arsenal in race for Sunderland star

Transfer rumours about Anthony Patterson are rampant as the summer market approaches.

Patterson, Anthony, for Sunderland-2

Among the teams hoping to sign Anthony Patterson from Sunderland this summer is Celtic.

The Scottish powerhouses are reportedly showing interest in the stopper in advance of the next transfer window, according to the Sunderland Echo.

As the Black Cats’ starting custodian in the Championship, Patterson has been an important member of the team this year.

Since Sunderland advanced from League One through the play-offs in the second half of the 2021–22 season, the 23-year-old has been the team’s first choice in goal.

The young player is a tremendous asset to Wearside because he came through the club’s academy system.

New head coach could impact Patterson’s Sunderland future

Despite significant interest in his services, it is understood that Patterson is not attempting to leave the Stadium of Light this summer.

But Sunderland don’t have a head coach at the moment, so it might potentially affect his future.

The 23-year-old’s contract with the Black Cats expires in the summer of 2028, but it’s unclear what the new manager has planned for the team’s starting lineup for the upcoming campaign.

Funds raised from a sale might be used to further develop the remaining portion of the team.

However, the new coach might also try to hold onto Patterson in the hopes that he can help the squad push for a promotion.
