Nathan Patterson surgery confirmed as Scotland suffer another Euro 2024 fitness blow

Following the confirmation that defender Nathan Patterson will undergo surgery for a hamstring injury,

Scotland will be without Patterson for Euro 2024.

The Everton defender will miss the entire season due to the injury.

The 22-year-old right-back was hurt while representing Everton in Monday night’s Premier League match at Stamford Bridge,

when Chelsea defeated them 6-0. This season, Patterson has only played a supporting role for the Toffees.

In his Friday media conference, club manager Sean Dyche acknowledged the seriousness of Patterson’s injury and disclosed that the former Rangers player will need surgery.

Dyche declared, “Patto will be out for the season.”

“Surgery will be required for him. It’s an extremely regrettable injury. We are equally as disappointed in him as we are in him over that one.

Now that the European Championships are less than two months away,

Patterson’s inclusion in Steve Clarke’s team for the competition seems improbable.

Scotland’s first match is against Germany, their hosts, on June 14.

They then play Switzerland on June 19 and Hungary on June 23. Concerns about Aaron Hickey, Patterson’s fellow right-back, who hasn’t played for Brentford since October due to a hamstring strain sustained during practice,

are compounding the news. Even though the 21-year-old is reportedly making good improvement, the former Hearts player has time on his side. Anthony Ralston of Celtic is Scotland’s other main right-back option,

and Sturm Graz’s Max Johnston has also been brought into the team in the last 12 months.

When it was revealed earlier in the week that Lewis Ferguson, a midfielder for Bologna, had undergone surgery for a cruciate knee ligament injury and would not be able to play at the Euros, Scotland suffered a blow.
