Everton next manager: Wyness drops sack verdict after ‘Dyche Out’ campaign

Keith Wyness, Everton’s former manager, has argued that “knee-jerk” fan calls for manager Sean Dyche to be fired are “natural”.

Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast,

the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs,

claimed Dyche is the right man for the job and has not lost the dressing room at Goodison.

Everton suffered a devastating 6-0 defeat away at Chelsea on Monday (15 April),

leaving them only two points above the relegation zone after winning only one of their past 11 league games.

The result sparked intense fan reaction on social media, with some even calling for the former Burnley manager to be fired.

Everton has been deducted eight points this season and would be in 15th place if they hadn’t infringed Premier League financial rules.

Wyness describes Everton’s ‘Dyche Out’ campaign as ‘logical’ following Chelsea’s defeat.

Dyche took over at Goodison Park in January 2023 and has won 31.6% of his 57 games as manager.

Wyness told Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast that he has been actively tracking fan opinion.

“There is no doubt that there has been a massive ‘Dyche Out’ campaign by the fandom.

“That’s to be anticipated following a crushing 6-0 defeat.

“I still believe Dyche is the perfect person for this fight. I don’t think he’s lost the dressing room;

he’s a very excellent man manager, and that will hopefully be demonstrated by his reaction against Nottingham Forest.

“With a 6-0 loss, with everything that has happened,

it’s a knee-jerk reaction waiting to happen after everything the fans have been through.

“It’s natural, and I understand it.”
