Murillo will one day score a goal from his own half, and the world will be a better place as a result.

The Nottingham Forest defender has picked up the ball in his defensive third twice this season,

for reasons he would have to explain to you himself, taken a few confident strides,

and smashed an effort goalwards. On both occasions,

he came agonisingly close to scoring a goal that would have been a highlight of Premier League seasons for decades to come.

Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United are unlikely to be interested in the Brazilian just because of his personal desire to win a Puskas Award, but who knows for sure?

According to Football Insider, the trio of top division heavyweights, as well as French giants Paris Saint-Germain,

are keeping a close eye on Murillo and may be tempted to test Forest’s resolve with bids for his services this summer.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, for their part,

are still subject to external demands from the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations,

and may be forced to sell one or more of their most valuable assets in the coming months. According to Football Insider,

it would take a ‘large’ amount to persuade Murillo to leave the City Ground – yet it remains to be seen whether Liverpool,

Chelsea, or United would deem a fee ‘far in excess of £20 million’ to be catastrophically excessive.

Even if they do, there may be a deal to be done here, particularly with the Blues.

You know, it wasn’t that long ago (the end of January) that Chelsea and Forest were negotiating for another defender.

Trevoh Chalobah was once referred to as a ‘forgotten guy’.

It would probably be more appropriate to say that he is ‘barely remembered’.

The centre-back has only played 394 minutes of Premier League football in six games this season,

and his prospects do not appear to be any brighter than they were during the winter transfer window,

when Forest clearly saw enough of an opening to believe they could lure him away from Stamford Bridge.

Maybe there’s anything worth revisiting in that early desire. If Murillo leaves the club this summer, and expenditure is strictly controlled by tough decisions from above,

it may be good for Forest to bring in a ready-made replacement for the South American.

Chalobah may not have much of a future in West London,

but there is no disputing that he is a Premier League-caliber player who deserves another chance in the top level if and when he departs his boyhood club.

Forest might provide him with that while simultaneously mitigating the impact of Murillo’s future departure in a way that would satisfy banking regulators significantly more than numerous alternatives.

Similarly, Chelsea may steal a march on Liverpool and United by signing a player who has had a spectacular debut season in England, while also freeing up some space on their hefty pay bill.

A cash-plus-player swap might thus be a satisfying agreement for all parties concerned.

Except Murillo, who will not stop until he has scored a goal from a different postcode.
