The Tractor Boys, after failing to win in their previous three Championship games, are at the top of the second-tier table.

Kieran McKenna’s men have stunned the league this season, winning promotion from League One and storming the division to be ranked above Leicester City and Leeds United, two clubs playing Premier League football at the same time the Tractor Boys were competing against Fleetwood Town and Burton Albion.

Additions to the Suffolk-based club’s ranks this January have undoubtedly helped to bolster this unlikely promotion push,

with Kieffer Moore joining on loan from AFC Bournemouth,

which was a good deal for Ipswich, as the Welshman has six goals in 15 league appearances since arriving.

After beating off promotion rivals for Moore’s signature,

Ipswich will soon have to worry about who will fill his shoes when the Cherries player returns to his parent club,

with this overlooked Tractor Boys attacker eagerly waiting for his chance.

Gassan Ahadme’s time in Ipswich

Gassan Ahadme, who has only made eight appearances for Ipswich,

may not be the most well-known name among Championship championship contenders.

The former Norwich City junior player has only scored once in his brief spell in the first squad in Suffolk,

and he has yet to really set the world on fire since moving to the Canaries’ arch-rival.

Ipswich did not just go after Ahadme without appropriate planning;

the 23-year-old had become a feared striker with Burton in League One before heading to Portman Road,

scoring nine goals in 29 games at the Pirelli Stadium.

Ahadme has continued where he left off in a Brewers shirt at that level this season,

returning to form as a potent goalscorer while on loan at Cambridge United.

Ahadme’s statistics from Cambridge

The periphery Ipswich man’s goals with the U’s this season, 12 in 29 games across all competitions,

could have revived his stuttering Tractor Boys career.

Ahadme, who was described as a “outstanding” talent by former Cambridge manager Mark Bonner before his dismissal,

is still Cambridge’s leading scorer this season despite missing big sections of the campaign due to injuries.

With this knowledge in hand, it may be considered a risk to throw him into the deep end of playing for Ipswich so quickly,

given McKenna’s men’s experience with strikers coming up with injuries, such as George Hirst,

who has been out since the end of December.

However, Ipswich will be hoping that the forgotten figure of Ahadme can duplicate Ali Al-Hamadi’s success story of climbing from

League Two to play for an Ipswich side on the verge of the Premier League.

Al-Hamadi has adapted brilliantly to the increase in quality,

scoring four goals in the depleted centre-forward positions in Suffolk after previously playing for AFC Wimbledon in the fourth tier.

McKenna will undoubtedly want more bodies to select from up top next season,

whether Ipswich secures an incredible promotion or remains in the second tier,

with the Tractor Boys potentially handing Ahadme a fresh start at Portman Road after failing to use him effectively in the past.

With Moore likely leaving Ipswich to return to the South Coast,

and players like Kayden Jackson and Freddie Ladapo being pushed on as reserve alternatives up top,

Ahadme could finally get his big chance at Ipswich if everything falls into place.
