Why Sunderland should sign Rangers striker set to leave on free transfer

Sunderland is one squad that will have a lot to do during the summer transfer window.

Looking at their squad, it is evident that they need to add a pair of veteran strikers to improve their prospects of success next season.

They have strong players throughout their squad, but up front,

it’s evident that more quality is required if they hope to finish in the top six at the end of the 2024/25 season,

after falling short of expectations this summer.

Not only do they need strikers to compensate for their lack of firepower in this area,

but they also need these choices to guarantee they are completely prepared for Jack Clarke’s possible departure this summer.

With two years remaining on his contract and the Wearside club missing out on a promotion spot,

it appears certain that their star winger will depart during the forthcoming window.

Jobe Bellingham is another youngster that could pique attention,

with Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Lazio all connected with a move for the teenager.

The likely departures of these players necessitates a concentrate on the offensive areas when the summer window opens.

Rangers striker Kemar Roofe may be a fantastic signing.

Why Kemar Roofe might be a smart signing for Sunderland

Roofe has only scored once in 12 league appearances this season, but his goal-scoring record at Ibrox has been very consistent.

(As of April 15th, 2024) [All competitions]
Appearances 98
Goals 38
Assists 7

Doing well at Leeds United before moving north of the line, the forward has had a very good career thus far,

establishing himself as a true hero at Oxford United.

At 31, it may be argued that he isn’t a long-term option at the Stadium of Light,

but he should have at least two excellent years to provide the Black Cats,

having previously performed well in the Championship and gaining vital experience.

The Wearside club’s board may be keener to see the likes of Nazariy Rusyn given more minutes than Roofe given his age,

and while that’s good as the club try to build for the long term,

success in the immediate termĀ  also required so they can build momentum for the coming years.

With experience comes leadership, and Roofe understands what it’s like to be under pressure at the top of a division.

That experience should only benefit the young guys in the Black Cats’ locker room.

His versatility should also be beneficial, as the Jamaican can play on the wing.

Mike Dodds’ team may lose a wide attacking threat this summer, with Clarke linked with a transfer away,

but having Roofe as an option alongside Patrick Roberts might be beneficial.

Roofe’s contract expires in the summer, making him an economical alternative on Wearside.

Sunderland will face competition for Kemar Roofe.

If the Black Cats want to win this race, they must overcome challenges from other teams.

Fulham and Sheffield United are said to be interested,

but it appears that the Cottagers will only be able to offer him Premier League football, with the Blades set for relegation.

Southampton and Queens Park Rangers are both said to be interested,

since Che Adams and Lyndon Dykes may need to be replaced at St Mary’s and Loftus Road, respectively.

With so many teams interested in him, the Black Cats would most likely need to offer him a competitive deal,

but whether they would be willing to fulfill his wage demands remains to be seen.
