Neil Dewsnip, director of football and now-caretaker coach of Plymouth, confirmed at the start of this year that Argyle had rejected a bid

from Italian giants Lazio (Plymouth Herald).

It remains to be known how much the South Coast team will now pay for their lucky charm. However, Rangers’ £2 million offer from

more than a year ago may certainly be written off, so Dewsnip can probably continue to hope for more.

This season, Whittaker has developed a reputation for cutting inside from the right and bending strikes into the upper corner with his left

boot. Think of Devon as the Arjen Robben of Devon.

Whittaker also had the appearance of a Premier League fish swimming in a pond that he had already outgrown, even during the

unfortunate and brief tenure of Ian Foster in the Home Park dugout.

Morgan is a member of the gang that leads. After giving Whittaker the armband in the winter, Foster remarked,

“The personnel I picked for today, he was the outstanding candidate.”

“I had no hesitations about handing Morgan the captaincy because I know that players lead in different ways, and he has led by example

this season in terms of his performances. I felt he did a good job with it.

He’s playing really well right now, and I think he should keep playing that way. He’s always had skill, and that talent will only grow.

In recent years, Rangers have had the opportunity to acquire some exceptionally skilled players at a reduced cost, including Jarrad

Branthwaite, Joey Veerman, and Andreas Skov Olsen. Whittaker is another “one that got away,” earning a position in the Championship’s

Player of the Season competition as payment for an exceptional performance.
