‘Shocker’ – Pundit issues ‘Massive’ Celtic claim as brand new issues emerge for Rangers

Rangers’ need to win at Parkhead offers Celtic a “massive” edge in the SPFL title race following their defeat to Ross County,

according to Tam McManus.

The pundit stated on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show on April 15 that the “surprise” of a Light Blues result,

a 3-2 loss in Dingwall the day before, contained negative elements that he had never seen in a Philippe Clement Gers side,

handing the Belgian a brand new set of issues to address.

And, given Rangers’ recent dismal record at Parkhead,

he suggested that the fact that it will now almost certainly require a win away to Brendan Rodgers’ side has dealt them a significant blow.

McManus stated (3m 50s): “That’s the tiny cushion that they had; they had the draw in their pocket until this game [against Ross County],

and if they could go to Parkhead and not be defeated, they were still in the driving seat.

“This gives Celtic a huge advantage. They’ll know if they can beat Rangers at Parkhead, they’ve almost won the title.

“And I thought Ross County deserved it; they seemed to want it and were more hungry.

[For] a number of the goals, they ran off Rangers players, which I have not seen since Philippe Clement arrived.

“They deserved it.” At the end, you believed Rangers were going to put some pressure on Ross County; after it was 3-2,

you thought Rangers would really push [but] didn’t look like scoring an equaliser.

“It’s a shocker, it really is, and it puts Rangers well up against it now.”

Have the Rangers’ wheels come off?

At this point in the tightest title competition in years, Clement would be hoping to iron out any remaining difficulties rather than having new ones emerge.

A first-ever league defeat to Ross County has come at a terrible moment, and while the Dundee catastrophe was not ideal preparation,

it cannot be considered anything other than an unsatisfactory performance.

Rangers had gotten out of jail at Ibrox against Celtic after giving the Hoops two leads via careless play,

but Rabbi Matondo’s stirring late equaliser did not elicit the expected reaction in the following game.

It is obviously concerning that so many key players are suddenly out of form at the same time, with Connor Goldson,

John Lundstram, James Tavernier, and potentially even Jack Butland falling short of their potential.

In terms of this season, the loss has given Celtic the advantage,

but Clement will need to find a way to end the three-and-a-half-year drought without a win at Parkhead sooner or later,

regardless of what occurs.

He has previously revived a flagging side and a non-existent championship race, and in order to do so again,

he will need that critical Old Firm victory,

but he will first have to shock his players back into the sort of form that saw them win every game in January and February.
