The Kansas City Chiefs signed Chris Jones to a massive long-term contract this offseason, but they may not be finished strengthening the defensive line and could target Brade Fiske in the 2024 NFL Draft as a long-term replacement for the future Hall of Famer.

Sure, the Chiefs have problems at cornerback following La’Jarius Sneed’s departure, and it would be prudent to boost the wide receiving corps in the upcoming draft, but consistent depth along the line of scrimmage is an undervalued critical component of competing for championships.

Braden Fiske in Kansas City Chiefs’ Sights?

In ESPN’s latest three-round NFL Mock Draft projection, with Mel Kiper Jr. and Field Yates swapping picks, Yates predicts the Chiefs will take Fiske with the 64th overall pick in the second round of the 2018 draft.

“Kansas City spent heavily to retain Chris Jones,” Yates notes. “And Fiske would make the interior even better, as he is very disruptive and plays with explosiveness.”

Fiske led the Seminoles’ dominating front-seven with 43 total tackles and six sacks last season, and he has the potential to create one of the most disruptive defensive interiors in sport an even bigger nightmare for opposing quarterbacks.

Fiske undoubtedly matches the conceptual profile of the player the Chiefs want to build around.

Despite a receiving corps that dropped more passes than any other unit in the NFL, Kansas City won the Super Bowl in 2023, thanks in large part to dominance at the line of scrimmage and Patrick Mahomes heroics.

At 6-foot-5 and 297 pounds, Fiske may become a dominant force alongside Jones before eventually replacing him in the coming years.

“Defensive tackle with below-average mass and length,” NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein wrote about Fiske. “Who compensates for it with above-average speed and a constantly revving motor. Fiske whips single blocks with quick hands and nimble feet. “When he finds daylight, he flies to whoever has the ball.”

Fiske accumulated 19.5 sacks, 36 tackles for loss, 191 total tackles, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries throughout five collegiate seasons, including the 2023 season after transferring from Western Michigan.

In Kansas City, Fiske could learn behind one of the best to ever play the position while adding quality snaps as he develops as a rookie.
