“If the Cowboys can harness Travis’ athleticism without limiting his upside as a playmaker, he could become a dynamic signal-caller with the team’s supporting cast,” writes Moton.

Jordan Travis Had Been a Heisman Trophy Favorite Prior to Injury

As the 23-year-old Travis led the Seminoles to an 11-0 record on the brink of a college football playoff appearance in 2023, he was actually the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. But while battling for additional yardage versus North Alabama, he had a broken leg injury that ended his season.

Before getting hurt, Travis had passed for seven touchdowns and twenty touchdowns against just two interceptions, good for a 64.1 percent completion percentage.

Travis hopes to be fully recovered in time for spring training, however he is still working to heal from his leg injury.

Why Cowboys Could Benefit From Drafting Jordan Travis

When it comes to possible Prescott replacements, Cowboys fans may not find the selection of Travis all that thrilling, but it’s a smart option given the low risk and high reward. It seems unlikely that Travis will be chosen until the later stages of the selection.

That implies that regardless of Prescott’s contract status, there wouldn’t be a quarterback debate if the Cowboys selected Travis in the fifth or seventh round.

However, after recovering from his leg injuries over the course of a full pro season, Travis might be ready to turn into a reliable quarterback. For the past two seasons, Travis has been among the league’s top dual-threat quarterbacks, as Moton points out.

Cooper Rush and Trey Lance are the other two quarterbacks on the Cowboys’ roster. Dallas won’t be depending on Rush to be its starting quarterback in the event that Prescott goes, even though he is a highly rated backup with a 5-1 career record. Given that he was once selected as the third overall pick and that Dallas had to forfeit draft capital in order to obtain him, Lance could be a possibility.
