We recently discussed the possibility of a transfer battle between Preston North End and Sunderland ahead of the summer window.

The man in question is PNE winger Liam Millar, who will return to parent club Basel at the end of the season.

Millar has five goals and five assists while on loan at North End and has wowed fans with his skill down the left wing.

North End will undoubtedly pursue a permanent contract for the Canadian, but his performances at Deepdale have not gone ignored.

According to reports from January, Sunderland was considering Millar as a replacement for star winger Jack Clarke.

Clarke is receiving Premier League interest ahead of the summer transfer season, and Sunderland appear to be targeting Millar.

Millar has conceded that he is settled in the North West, which may help PNE’s argument,

but Sunderland has joined the hunt for another PNE-linked player.

Sunderland are looking for a goalkeeper who is linked to PNE.

According to Alan Nixon of The Sun, Sunderland are interested in signing Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle.

Tickle made his England Under-21 debut last week,

and Sunderland are reportedly interested in him as a replacement for Anthony Patterson.

Patterson is drawing Premier League interest, while Wigan’s Tickle is being considered as a potential replacement.

Nixon suggested in January that PNE was interested in signing Tickle before the transfer deadline.

No move occurred, and it now appears that Sunderland, like Millar, might provide opposition if PNE express interest this summer.

Does North End require Sam Tickle?

However, until Freddie Woodman leaves North End, we do not expect PNE to compete for Tickle this summer.

Spending on Tickle, which is unlikely to be inexpensive despite his League One status,

just doesn’t make sense with Woodman still at the club.

Woodman, on the other hand, is entering the final year of his contract at Deepdale,

and PNE may consider Tickle as a successor if necessary.

Tickle has impressed at Wigan, but we don’t view him as a high priority for North End this summer, especially not over Millar.
