Philippe Clement will have to do a bit of wheeler dealing in the summer if he is to start next season with a Rangers team in his own mould.

The manager of the Gers has demonstrated that the team isn’t completely dysfunctional,

but he still needs to address a few problems.

Players who are out of contract or nearing the end of their loan terms may cause some adjustments in the forward line,

but Philippe Clement could find affordable options for Rangers.

If resources permit, the gaffer’s ideal scenario would likely involve keeping Oscar Cortes and Abdallah Sima.

Scott Wright still needs to show that he can be a useful player at the sharp end of the pitch,

and Kemar Roofe has already been linked to a move away from Ibrox.

Sam Lammers is the other player whose future is in doubt.

The on-loan forward was reportedly valued at £2.5 million by Rangers,

but the way he has conducted himself at Utrecht makes us think we may even be able to recoup our investment.

After a stunning comeback, he has contributed 10 goals in 13 games while playing as a center striker.

These kinds of stats will draw notice, particularly in the Eredivisie.

The last thing Clement needs is another number 10,

as Ianis Hagi is expected to return to Rangers and Todd Cantwell and Tom Lawrence are already in place.

Although they both have different playing styles and are capable of scoring goals,

neither Danilo nor Cyriel Dessers would be regarded as natural goal scorers.

There wouldn’t be a better place to spend Rangers’ around £3 million for Lammers and the money we paid for him than on Lawrence

Shankland, who will likely make a tidy profit.

Unless something extraordinary occurs after the break,

Hearts should be easier to deal with because he just has one year left on his contract.

They will also have European football secured.

Over the course of a season, there would be plenty of game time to go around for the Hearts captain,

who would complement our current pair of forwards.

Sure, Shankland will turn 29 at the start of the upcoming season,

but he doesn’t exactly have a fast finish or a history of ailments.

When he plays for Rangers, he does his best work when he is in the width of the goals.

Rangers need to address home grown squad problem

After needing to elevate Cole McKinnon for the Europa League matches against Benfica,

Clement is well aware of the necessity for homegrown players:

“It is crucial for Scottish football that young players are given opportunities and allowed to develop.”

“We need to investigate it for our European team,

since we were missing a number of players due to either a lack of Scottish players on the roster or the need to purchase them,

but we may have other priorities with our funds.

“Alternatively, we must develop them internally over the ensuing years,

and that is one of my goals—to graduate players from the academy who have the potential to play in the Rangers starting lineup.”

Rangers’ decision to sign Lawrence Shankland

and sell Lammers while still making a few bucks makes sense both on and off the field.
