Breaking News: Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino’s call set to upset Ipswich Town

Another week has past, and while Chelsea was busy going toe-to-toe with Manchester City in a tense match at Stamford Bridge,

its loan squad was out playing throughout Europe. Chelsea’s on-loan players had a mixed weekend,

but the Blues are heading into the break with a positive attitude.

There may be some concerns as a number of players continue to struggle to win minutes at their new teams,

and there are some injury problems to monitor as well.

However, many have gained international call-ups and guided their sides to victory.

football.london looks at how Chelsea’s on-loan players have performed over the last week.

Kepa Arrizabalaga – The Spanish goalie is expected to be out for several weeks due to a ruptured abductor muscle,

and he missed Real Madrid’s match against Valencia. He will hope to recover over the international break.

Gabriel Slonina – The US goalkeeper returned to his country’s squad for Concacaf Nations League matches against

Trinidad and Tobago, although his Eupen team lost 3-1 to RWD Molenbeek.

Bashir Humphreys – The youthful central defender is expected to join England’s under-21 squad for the international break,

although Swansea suffered a 3-2 defeat to Ipswich Town.

Omari Hutchinson – The on-loan winger helped Ipswich take a 3-1 lead over Swansea before being replaced after an hour.

Kieran McKenna, the Tractor Boys’ head coach, praised the 20-year-old’s improvement in his initial months with the club.

“He’s coming along really well,” stated the Ipswich manager. “I think from our perspective,

the player’s perspective, and I know from Chelsea’s perspective, it’s all you could want in a loan thus far.

“It’s his first loan; he hadn’t played any important first-team minutes previously; he came on against Manchester City last year,

but had played very few senior minutes.

“It’s been a really wonderful experience for everyone so far, from his learning on the training ground to being among such a mature,

driven, and focused bunch. A tremendously demanding atmosphere where the players practice to a high level every day,

and he’s really bought into that culture. He’s worked hard to be a part of things,

and the players have done a great job making him part of it.

“I think the main thing is the big positive of the way he’s threatening the opposition,

getting himself into great positions and putting in a great effort for the team off the ball.”
