Joelinton has acknowledged that he “loves” Eddie Howe, revealing how much the manager salvaged his Newcastle United career.

In October 2021, the Magpies and Joelinton stared into the abyss. With zero wins in the Premier League,

relegation seemed inevitable, and the Brazilian was considered as the club’s worst-ever signing.

Joelinton was a £40 million laughing stock, and there was rumors of him moving to Turkey during the January transfer window.

The Saudi-backed takeover was approved unexpectedly, transforming Newcastle’s – and Joelinton’s – fortunes for good.

Howe was quickly appointed, and the 27-year-old was transformed from a goal-shy striker to a midfield force.

He has subsequently established himself as one of the Premier League’s top players, as well as a unique rapport with the Newcastle fans.

Joelinton, speaking after signing a four-year contract deal, praised Howe for his impact on his career.

He told NUFC TV: “He (Howe) is a terrific man. I adore him as a person and coach. He has been quite helpful to me since day one.

He gave me the confidence to play and made me believe in myself. When I step on the pitch, I want to repay him.

“I feel fantastic. I am really pleased, and so is my family. A lot has happened throughout my time here.

I’ve learned and grown a lot, and coming to Newcastle was the best decision of my career.

“I enjoy playing for the club. I love the club and the fans. We had numerous debates, and I always wanted to be here.

I’m delighted to continue, and I expect to be successful in the coming years.”
