‘Too little too late’ – Ipswich Town vs Middlesbrough prediction: The72

The72’s writers predict Ipswich Town against Middlesbrough in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Ipswich Town face Middlesbrough after drawing 0-0 at home against Watford.

They squandered an opportunity to strengthen their grip on automatic promotion, as Leeds United and Leicester City both failed to win.

The Tractor Boys had slightly more shots than their opponents, but overall it was a fairly balanced match,

with the Hornets earning a well-deserved point. As a result, Kieran McKenna’s side climbed up to second position in the table,

but they are only one point ahead of Leeds United in third.

Middlesbrough also drew their last game, coming from behind to get a point away against Hull City in a 2-2 draw.

Boro had taken the lead via Emmanuel Latte Lath, but the Tigers went ahead at halftime due to goals from Jaden Philogene and Jean Michael Seri. “Ipswich were disappointed by Watford last time out, and they’ll be looking for a comeback this weekend against a well-drilled Boro side.

“It will undoubtedly be an interesting and high-quality match between two powerful teams fighting for opposing reasons.

McKenna’s side will undoubtedly be hoping to move closer to automatic promotion, but Carrick’s side still has a slim chance of securing a play-off berth if they finish the season strongly.

“I have a feeling that Ipswich will return to winning ways in this one though, albeit by narrow margins.”

“Despite Middlesbrough’s strong finish to the season, I believe it will be too little, too late in their quest for a playoff position. They’re six points behind and need to keep their form while hoping those above slip up.

“Ipswich Town will be desperate to win, though. They’ve squandered a couple of opportunities to strengthen their hold on the top two spots and will be looking for a response.

“I’m not convinced they get the desired result, though. With Boro in decent shape, I can envision this finishing level.”
