Ibrox’s interest in transferring Colombian winger Jhon Arias has rekindled,

but rumors from his home country suggest that clubs in England and Spain may provide a major threat.

The Ibrox club is among the many European suitors showing interest in the 26-year-old,

who is currently playing for Copa Libertadores winners Fluminense in Brazil.

Oscar Cortes, a fellow countryman,

was signed by Gers manager Philippe Clement on a four-year loan deal in the January transfer window,

with the Govan team holding an option to buy.

However, Cortes is currently sidelined with a season-ending injury,

and it is unclear if he will move permanently to Glasgow from French Ligue One side Lens.

In 155 appearances for Fluminense across all competitions,

Arias has 33 goals and 36 assists, including five goals and two assists in 15 games this season.

Arias is hoping to make an impression for his country at the Copa America this summer.

Rangers is one of the elite teams monitoring the 12-time international,

along with Spanish powerhouse Atletico Madrid and the English Premier League trio of West Ham,

Crystal Palace, and Wolves, according to South American journalist Christian Martin.

He stated: “A player with good footing, experience, speed,

good management of small spaces, definition,

and that technique has had implications for European football would also be of interest to Rangers of Scotland.”

The Scottish powerhouses could run into trouble, though,

since Fluminense is requesting at least €10 million in addition to a potential sell-on charge.

Arias’s contract runs through 2026.

Recently, Jefte, a left-back for Fluminense, caught the attention of the Light Blues.

However, a January deal fell through, and Jefte is currently on loan at APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus,

who were unwilling to shorten his temporary stay in order to expedite a move to Ibrox.

As a result, the player received discipline for going missing during the unsuccessful transfer.
