Rangers could play Dundee at neutral venue as SPFL reveal alternative plans in case of third Dens Park washout

League chiefs have also vowed that a decision will be made well in advance of next Wednesday’s game if it looks in doubt.

If next Wednesday’s rescheduled match between Dundee and Rangers fails to go forward,

the game could be played at a neutral location.

The Dens Park pitch farce continues as a second effort to play the Premiership fixture failed this week.

Due to heavy rain, a second afternoon pitch inspection was canceled,Dens Park 'Keep Off The Grass'

and the game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 17, at 8 p.m. Rangers responded with a harsh statement blaming the Dark Blues and alleging the scenario might have been prevented.

Tony Docherty’s club is in a three-way race for the final top-six berth,

which may not be settled this weekend dependent on the outcome of the Motherwell-Hibs game, as well as the dee’s trip to Pittodrie.

There’s also the small matter of the Gers competing with Celtic for the league title.

And now the SPFL has revealed that one of their backup plans for next week is to play the game at a different location.

Ibrox manager Philippe Clement is willing to play behind closed doors,

and while league officials have not confirmed whether or not this would be the case,

they have assured that a decision will be taken well ahead of game day.

The Dundee against Rangers game has been rescheduled for 8pm on Wednesday,

April 17 at Dens Park, live on Sky Sports, according to a statement from the SPFL issued yesterday.

“We have had significant discussions with both clubs about contingencies in case the match cannot be played at Dens Park on Wednesday.

These include the potential of the match transferring to a different location.

“We will confirm these arrangements as soon as possible, and well in advance of Wednesday’s match.”
