Old Firm transfer battle is one that Rangers should let Celtic win, domestic option is available
As they say, “There is no smoke without fire,” and Philippe Clement of Rangers is still connected to new goalkeepers.
The Gers manager was rumored to be interested in Standard Liege goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart, but a trustworthy
source in Belgium quickly shot this down.
is said to be keeping an eye on another glovesman.
Rangers looking to give Philippe Clement goalkeeper depth?
The players that have been linked don’t seem to be the sort to replace Jack Butland and the latest hasn’t
even been his side’s first choice all season.
The issue lies in the fact that both Robby McCrorie and Jon McLaughlin, who have been two distinct number ones’ long-term backups,
could leave Ibrox in the summer.
Speaking earlier in the season, Jack Butland was eager to share some positive news with Rangers supporters in the midst of Nottingham
Forest rumours and interest:
Butland declared, “It was a no on all fronts from the get-go.”
I’m having fun with it, he remarked. “There’s too much to do and too much to accomplish.
“I’ve connected with a club here in a way that I haven’t felt in a long time. That’s hard to give up easily.
Hopefully, the rumours about Rangers’ potential price tag of £10–15 million come to a stop.
Who have Rangers been linked with now?
According to ftbl.com, Tom Glover of Middlesbrough—a fitting moniker for a goalkeeper—is reportedly a summer transfer target.
Despite being under contract until 2027, the Australian’s record of conceding 27 goals in 20 games is hardly impressive.
These days, English clubs also take a long time to let players go for cheap.
The deal’s red flag is that Celtic are reportedly interested as well. Where have we seen that tale before?
I fail to see why Nils Koppen would go past Liam Kelly if Rangers are searching for an experienced
goalkeeper who can step in for Jack Butland as a backup.
We could do with keeping McCrorie as a homegrown player, but there’s a good chance the former
Auchenhowie child wouldn’t want to be second fiddle.
Despite this, Kelly is now a regular in the Scotland team, so unlike McCrorie, I wouldn’t be concerned
about him filling in for Jack Butland in the long run.
It obviously makes more sense to acquire another international player for free than to add Bodart,
who would cost upwards of the £3.4 million indicated.
