Scotland will conclude the season outside of the top 10 in the UEFA coefficient

rankings as a result of Viktoria Plzen’s draw with Fiorentina.

After Scotland falling out of the top 10 UEFA coefficient rankings,

the winners of the Scottish Premiership WILL NOT automatically go to the

2025–2026 Champions League group stage.

Thanks to Viktoria Plzen’s 0-0 tie with Fiorentina in the first leg of their

Europa Conference League quarterfinal match, the Czech Republic has surpassed us.

The Czech team was aware that a draw in either leg would be sufficient to move them

ahead of the Scots in the standings.

Despite finishing last in their Champions League group, Celtic managed to earn some points

with their home victory over Feyenoord on the final day and their draw with Atletico Madrid.

However, Rangers held the key to Scotland’s ambitions as Philippe Clement’s

team won 3-2 on the road at Real Betis to top their Europa League group and secure

a trip to the round of sixteen. Scotland’s 2-2 draw with Benfica in Lisbon gave hope that they would still have a

player in European competition to stave off the threat from the Czech Republic. However,

the Gers were eliminated after a 1-0 loss at Ibrox and were hoping for a favor from

Fiorentina against Plzen.

Nevertheless, because the Serie A team was unable to play at home,

the Old Firm’s ticket to Europe’s top table was revoked for the following season,

and with it the guaranteed prize fund that can significantly increase transfer fees.

Rangers might still enter through the back door, though,

if they win the league the following year and Scotland is rated eleventh.

Being the highest ranked champion in qualifying means that,

under the new Champions League system that will take effect next season,

they would be guaranteed a spot based on their individual club coefficient position.

That depends on whether or if the 2024 Champions League winners—which is very likely—already qualified for the competition the next season based

on their league standing.
