DUNDEE vs RANGERS: SPFL Boss cancels new date again, travelers informed – Pitch under inspection.

The game was moved to tonight at 8 p.m.,

but SPFL executives are now being compelled to reconsider.

And as the pitch was deemed unplayable by referee Don Robertson,

the game will now take place on Wednesday, April 17.

This morning at 11 a.m.,

match referee Robertson conducted an initial examination of the pitch by testing the surface.

The whistler declared the pitch playable after its initial assessment, but only temporarily.

Because of the predicted rain, he has planned a second inspection,

which will take place at 3.30 p.m.

After doing the early morning inspection,

Robertson spoke with Sky Sports and acknowledged that everything was “in the lap of the gods.”

Even while he is confident that the pitch is playable,

he acknowledged that the forecast of intense rain may soon change that reality,

and that is exactly what happened.

According to Robertson, the pitch is currently playable.

The league requested me to come over this morning and carry out the examination.

“Obviously there have been some issues with the pitch recently so

I think we wanted to come up early and have an early sight of the pitch.”

Right now, it’s playable. The pitch is playable, and players can safely play in all areas of it,

including those where there were worries a few weeks ago. I’m fully at ease with this.

“So that’s the current situation; obviously, everyone is aware of the local weather forecast.”

“I think everyone’s aware of the issues that Dundee have had with their pitch,

certainly recently, there’s a couple of areas of the pitch where at the moment it’s playable and that’s all I can judge it on,

how I view the condition of the pitch just now.

“But they’re already quite wet so should the forecast be correct this afternoon and there is heavy rain,

then obviously those areas will become more of a concern to us.

“But, forecasts are forecasts, sometimes they’re wrong in which case if it’s dry this afternoon,

the rain goes off, the pitch is playable just now then it should be playable this evening.

“But we’re in the lap of the gods.”

Dundee released the following statement:

“The match referee has determined that the surface is currently playable following this morning’s scheduled pitch inspection.

“However, with rain forecast for later today both clubs and the league have agreed for a further pitch inspection to take place at 3.30pm today.”

Rangers responded to the “inconvenience” that the postponement is inflicting traveling supporters with a statement of their own.

According to the weather forecast for Dundee this afternoon, a follow-up inspection is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

“Rangers has continued to insist that a final decision is made as early as possible for our traveling supporters,

and fully understands the inconvenience this continues to cause.”

The two clubs took the show on the road after two inspections,

although the Motherwell match on Saturday was first called into question.

Dundee’s greatest John Nelms stated yesterday that if the pitch failed the checks,

there are NO backup plans in place;

however, he said the “logical move” would be to reschedule it for either Tuesday,

the 16th, or Wednesday, the 17th.

According to proposed plans, it might only be moved back 24 hours, to Thursday, the 11th.

It was also rumored that they might play in private at a neutral location.

At Dens Park, this is the FIFTH postponement of the season.

“We’re as confident as we can be,

we’ve done everything we can to make the pitch playable,

and right now the areas of concern we have covered and we’ve had covered since yesterday,

” he said in a statement to Sky Sports yesterday.

“But like I said, the timing of the rain is always an issue.”

“We’ve done everything we can to get the water off the pitch;

we completed that before Saturday’s game,” he continued. It was a matter of time once more.

“That game is ours. Although the pitch didn’t seem good, it performed well.

The ball bounced and rolled like it should have, and it was safe to walk on.

“That and what we’re doing right now are really similar.

The covers are on; the parts of the pitch that require additional coverage, so to speak, have heavier coverings.

“The plan is to keep those covers on,

continue with the work that they’ve been doing and we’ll see what happens in the next 24 hours.”

In any event, Rangers made the trip to the region yesterday,

and manager Philippe Clement described the current state of affairs as

“crazy” due to his frustration with the lack of notice around the match.

Speaking yesterday, he stated: “We are going to travel right now and stay (overnight),

but we are unsure if the game is on. It’s a crazy situation.” It’s not good for the league.

“To play this game, we need to come up with a decent solution.

“If it was rescheduled for next week, we might end up in the same predicament if it rains.

“We want a decent football game to happen,

thus the club has been in communication with the league and Dundee.

They are fighting for the top six, which is producing plenty of opportunities.

Thus, playing a strong team will be a significant test.”
