Callum McGregor hint on signing a pre-contract agreement to join PSG in the summer – Pundits dig in.

Callum McGregor, who has won 20 domestic honors, including five trebles,

has signed a new contract that will keep him at Celtic until 2028.

Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda have also signed long-term contracts.

The Scottish Premiership champions and Celtic captain

Callum McGregor have reached an agreement on a new five-year contract.

The 30-year-old made his debut in the club’s development program at the age of eight,

and in 420 appearances in all competitions, he has scored 62 goals.

During his stellar career at Celtic Park,

McGregor has played under four different managers and won 20 domestic honors,

including five trebles, since making his first-team debut in 2014.

The armband was given to the midfield player in 2021 when Scott Brown left for Aberdeen.

Following the commitments of striker Kyogo Furuhashi and winger Daizen Maeda to stay with the team until 2027,

he is the third Celtic player to sign a new long-term contract.

“It’s amazing to extend my stay at the club,” McGregor remarked.

As I’ve mentioned previously, I’m really passionate about this club, and our recent success has only strengthened that feeling.

“The club seems to be in a terrific position to move forward as well,

so I was thrilled when they asked me to stay longer.

“Brendan [Rodgers] is an excellent manager.

I had the privilege of working with him previously and

seen his improvement and leadership of that group of players—especially a young, hungry bunch like ours.

The club is in a great position because of his demeanor, which also adds to the building’s appeal.

“We did some great work over the last couple of years but it’s important that we bank that and we continue to move forward because in football you always have to continue your progress and get even better.

“I just want it to continue for as long as possible.

I’ve spoken before about the trust that the guys have put in me at this club,

and I want to repay that every time I go on the pitch. They’ve been amazing for myself and for my family.

It’s given me a wonderful life and some amazing memories.

“Together with the Celtic fans what we’ve achieved are memories that will stay with me forever,

and there’s only one place that I want to play football and that’s here.”

“It’s fantastic news for the club, for the fans, and for the players,

but as a manager it’s extra special to have someone of that caliber captain the team,” Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers stated.

“Callum is such an incredible player, and I’m thrilled to be collaborating with him once more.

“Callum is a tremendously underappreciated player, and it takes working with him to truly see his true potential.

It’s important to develop him as a football player first and foremost,

but it’s also wonderful to watch him grow as a person—I’ve been with him for four years now,

and it’s been amazing to watch him evolve even more since then.

Even at thirty years old, he still has a lot to gain and progress toward, and I have no doubt that he is driven to do so.

“His support for the squad is what matters most.

It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to work with someone who leads the squad with such selflessness as he does now as the club captain.

He is a great coach on the field.”

Since coming back to Parkhead, Rodgers has also added two new players:

winger Marco Tilio from Melbourne City and midfielder Odin Thiago Holm from Valerenga.

The Portuguese winger Jota completed a £25 million transfer to Al-Ittihad, a Saudi club,

while Aaron Mooy declared his retirement from competition.
