ESPN (Mel Kiper Jr.): Xavier Legette, a wide receiver from South Carolina

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., one of the initial draft gurus, selected South Carolina pass-catcher Xavier Legette as a wide receiver for Kansas City. What Kiper thought of the choice was as follows:

“To close up Round 1, another mock draft and another wideout associated with the Chiefs. In 2023,

Legette showed remarkable growth as he recorded 1,255 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

He finished the 2022 season with a meager 167 yards. He then established himself as one of the top 10 prospects at

his position at the combine with an astounding 40-yard dash time of 4.39 seconds. Although Marquise Brown was

added, Kansas City still needs to add pass catchers this offseason.”

CBS Sports (April 10): Nate Wiggins, a Clemson tight end

According to Pete Prisco of CBS Sports, the Chiefs will select Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins with the 32nd

overall choice. Wiggins had the second-fastest 40-yard sprint of any player at the NFL Scouting Combine.

More from Prisco is as follows:

“They could go receiver here — maybe Xavier Worthy — or a tackle, but with the run on tackles,

I have them taking a cover corner to help replace L’Jarius Sneed.”

Rhett Lewis of NFL.com (April 9) reports on Missouri CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr.

The Chiefs are picking a cornerback in the first round, according to NFL Network host Rhett Lewis,

who chose Mizzou defensive back Ennis Rakestraw Jr.

Lewis gave the following explanation of the pick:

“The Chiefs are known for selecting wide receivers in the first round, but didn’t their run to the Super Bowl teach us

anything about Patrick Mahomes‘ capacity to succeed in the face of a dearth of elite talent outside the field?

Rakestraw, who is agile in the pass game and strong against the run, would fit in nicely at one of the corner spots

now that L’Jarius Sneed has been traded.”
