Gers are keeping an eye on Standard Liege goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart ahead of a potential summer transfer, according to sources.

The 26-year-old, who is in the penultimate year of his contract with the Belgian giants,

has been a near-constant in goal since the 2019/20 season.

However, he is expected to move for a new challenge at the conclusion of the season,

with Liege reportedly open to a sale if both parties cannot reach an agreement.

Since Philippe Clement took over as manager and Nils Koppen as recruitment head,

the duo have overhauled the Ibrox club’s scouting structure, with Anthony Galinski joining as new lead international scout,

replacing Nottingham Forest-bound Andreas Fehse.

That makeover has prompted the Light Blues to look into the Belgian Jupiler Pro League market for new players,

with Sudinfo reporting that Bodart is firmly on the Gers’ radar.

If Liege does not persuade Bogart to stay, it is expected that they would demand a sum of around €4 million (£3.4 million) for the shot-stopper,

who recently received his first senior call-up to the Belgium national team squad.

Rangers have yet to submit an official offer, but it’s expected that a proposal will be made amid fears that current first-choice Jack Butland – contract with the club until 2027 – could be lured away for a return to the Premier League this summer after a highly impressive year in  Govan.

Butland’s exceptional form has put him back in position to be picked to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024,

and he is expected to have plenty of suitors from south of the border when the transfer window reopens in June.

Bodart, who has over 150 appearances for Standard Liege and has spent his whole professional career with the club,

might be a strong contender for the No.1 post, alongside current understudy Robby McCrorie and third-round pick Jon McLaughlin.

While not a household name, Bodart was notably in the center of one of Rangers’ most iconic recent goals,

which came against Standard Liege in the 2020/21 Europa League group stage.

The game is fondly remembered remembered for Kemar Roofe’s sensational strike from inside his own half,

with the frontman looping the ball over the keeper into the net.

He was previously linked with a move to rivals Celtic who enquired about his availability to initially come on board as back-up to Joe Hart last summer and he also received interest from French outfit Strasbourg in the January window.
