Recovered Lawrence Shankland says he’s ‘all good’ despite missing Hearts’ win over St Mirren, and he’s ready to target Livingston and Rangers before launching a post-split drive.
Top scorer Shankland raised concerns when he was unexpectedly absent from the squad in Paisley,
as the Jambos won 2-1 on the road to confirm their place as the best of the rest.
Steven Naismith’s squad appears to be on track to finish third and qualify for the European group stage next season,
thanks in large part to Shankland’s 27 goals.So the fact that he’s back and ready to play ahead of their final league game before the break against Livingston this weekend is good news for the Jambos fans.
Speaking at the premiere of McDonald’s Fun Football, he stated, “I’m well, fully recovered.
It was simply a minor ailment at the camp, but nothing to worry about; I’m well.
“Shankland’s outstanding domestic record appears to have given him a ticket on the aircraft to Germany with Steve Clarke and his Scotland team this summer, and he’ll be trying to maintain it to maximise his chances of starting the opening game against the hosts on June 14.
A goal against Gibraltar or Finland next month would assist his cause, especially after missing a clear opportunity to equalise against the Netherlands in Amsterdam. Reflecting on that,
he stated, “It was a good opportunity for me to score in Amsterdam.
” But this isn’t the first time I’ve missed an opportunity, and it won’t be the last.
This is the life of a striker. I performed everything correctly; the shot was just little higher than I wanted it to be.
But I would not change what I did. I’d still go with the same finish.
It was disappointing that it did not make it in, but that is how things are. I am certain I will miss more.
