It has been announced that Dundee may not be able to welcome Rangers at Dens Park next week,

for their twice-rearranged clash.

The game is set on Wednesday evening (17/04), and Ibrox manager Philippe Clement

has imposed a Tuesday midday deadline for a call on the team’s shaky surface.

Additionally, the SPFL issued a weak statement that seems to imply that a call off

could be necessary for reasons other than the appalling surface at Dens Park.

The circumstance, in which Rangers supporters are once again treated with nothing

but outright contempt, has brought attention to the egregiously inept leadership in Scotland’s game.

Philippe Clement awaits Dundee v Rangers confirmation

In a news conference presided over by Dundee prior to the match against Ross County,

the succinct and well-spoken Philippe Clement made it apparent just how untenable the current state of affairs is.

This degree of interruption should be intolerable—the squad is preparing, fans are traveling,

and there is a title chase going on—but Dundee has been permitted to have 30% of their home

matches affected this season without consequence.

Despite Dundee’s and the SPFL’s attempts to spin it, a final decision on the match has not yet been made, as Philippe Clement clearly said when he originally broke the news.

“As of right now, we will find out Tuesday at 12 o’clock where we’re playing on Wednesday,”

Clement stated. In Dundee, normally, if something isn’t doable, it needs to be somewhere,

but we now know Tuesday at 12 o’clock so that we are aware of what’s going to happen.

Even so, we still need to make a few preparations, so I’m hoping we’ll find out where the

second location is a few days in advance so we can organize everything.

“Well, that’s next week, but if I hear right, we could play in Dundee once more,”

We witnessed it yesterday morning, when it was still doable for three or four hours despite some rain, but after a few hours it became impossible.

The situation is truly abhorrent, and both Dundee and the SPFL need to hang their heads in shame.

Play the game differently, give the supporters and both teams time to be ready,

and punish Dundee for their ineptitude and surface-level stinginess.
