SPFL Side Say Scotland’s VAR “Not Suitable for Purpose” in Scathing Statement

Aberdeen has expressed serious reservations about the Video Assistant Referee system following a disallowed goal in their last match against Livingston.

The problem came when an important late-game goal was overturned owing to a failure in the Hawkeye system,

which aids VAR decisions, notably offside rulings.

This failure prevented VAR referees from decisively deciding whether a player was offside,

resulting in a decision that Aberdeen claims jeopardized the match’s integrity.VAR

The VAR ruled there should be no goal, overruling the on-field verdict of onside and essentially guessing whether a player was on or offside.

The Scottish FA has acknowledged the issue and initiated an investigation into why the technology failed at such a critical time.

VAR has caused numerous issues for the majority, if not all, of clubs.

Aberdeen claims this is because Scottish football cannot afford to bring in high-quality equipment.

A piece of their statement read: “What this circumstance illustrates,

in our opinion, is that the form of VAR that Scottish football possesses,

or more precisely, can afford, is unsuitable for the purpose for which it is intended.

It properly demonstrates the technology’s limits, the ineffective implementation,

the consistency of decision-making, and the detrimental influence on the overall experience for the match-going fan.”

Kyle believes Johnston’s foot touched the ball first, which should not have resulted in a penalty.

“My sense on it is that Silva is facing Johnston. He went one direction, then another,

so the weight moves one way and then the other due to normal bodily movements.

“So, as he [Silva] went one way and chopped him, Johnston is already down because of how he did the chop.
