Rangers target defensive trio in summer shortlist as Philippe clement prioritises young players

Spurs want to add depth to their squad and are aiming to bolster three positions:

centre back, left winger, and central midfielder – with a preference for players under the age of 24.

A centre back is the priority, with Postecoglou lately counting the cost of Micky van de Ven’s long-term injury and Cristian Romeo’s ban,

and replacing them with two full backs in Ben Daves and Emerson Royal.

Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi are said to be high on their target list,

while Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo is another they admire –Ian MacNicol/Getty Images

but luring these players away from their clubs midway through the season will be difficult.

Branthwaite is critical to Eveton’s attempt for survival under Sean Dyche,

while Guehi and Todibo are equally important to their teams,

particularly the latter as Nice begin a surprise Ligue 1 title drive this season.

According to Sky Sports News, Spurs have cooled their interest in Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah,

whom they contemplated signing on deadline day in the summer, due to injury issues

– the same may be said about another summer target, Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly.

Spurs are keeping an eye on Juventus’ Samuel Iling-Junior,

an England U21 international who joined Italy from Chelsea’s academy in 2020 and is represented by the same agency –

CAA Base – as Postecoglou, Heung-Min Son, and James Maddison.

wever, Spurs do not have a large transfer budget until they sell players first,

and with centre back as a priority, they may consider loan options such as former Celtic winger Jota,

who is presently playing for Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.
