Everton has declared that they would challenge the decision of an impartial panel to subtract two further Premier

League points.

The Toffees were hit with a 10-point punishment in November, which was lowered to six points after an appeal,

for breaking financial laws. Sean Dyche’s team was sent into the relegation zone as a result, but they have

subsequently bounced back.

But when Everton was once more charged by the Premier League for its accounts from the previous season in

January, further chaos broke out. Due to a rule change made last summer, clubs were required to turn in their

balance sheets by December 31 in order to receive punishment during the current campaign.

An independent commission last week levied charges and assessed a four-point punishment to Nottingham Forest.

Everton maintained that because FFP/PSR is regulated over a three-year period, a further penalty would amount to

“double punishment” for the same offense.

In an odd move, Blues executives also attributed the sentence to “mitigating circumstances facing the club due to the

war in Ukraine” in a club statement announcing their intention to appeal. The Premier League charged Everton in

January 2024 for exceeding the allowed Profit and Sustainability levels for the evaluation year ending in 2022–2023,

according to an announcement.

Everton will immediately forfeit two points after the Premier League commission was tasked with reviewing the case.

The club is happy to see that the commission has acknowledged most of the issues the club brought up,

including the idea of double punishment, the significant mitigating circumstances the club faces because of the war

in Ukraine, the high level of cooperation and early admission of the club’s breach. The club’s position has been that

no further sanctions were appropriate.

“Everton is deeply concerned about the disparities between commissions regarding the applied point deductions,

but we are still dedicated to collaborating with the Premier League on all PSR-related issues.

” The team would like to publicly thank the Fan Advisory Board, various fan organizations,

and all Evertonians for their unwavering patience and support during this process.

“The club and its attorneys have started getting ready to file an appeal of the Commission’s ruling.

At this point, no more remarks will be made.
