Joelinton appeared to have played his final game for Newcastle, and yesterday,

there were numerous reports indicating that the two parties were nearing an agreement on a

new four-year contract extension.

Joelinton’s current injury is expected to keep him out for the remainder of the season,

meaning we may have seen the last of the fan-favorite player in a Newcastle shirt.

However, due to the contract standoff, Newcastle could have looked to sell Joelinton

in the summer rather than lose him on a free agent the following year.

Fortunately, Joelinton and Newcastle have almost finalized their agreement,

so we don’t need to worry about that.

Another week another Bruno exit story

That was the highlight of Give Me Sport’s daily briefing by Fabrizio Romano.

The unfavorable information pertained to Joelinton’s closest friend, Bruno Guimaraes, who,

according to Romano, is still not assured of staying at St. James’ Park.

“I believe Bruno Guimaraes may leave Newcastle in the summer because,

given his unique skill set and the hectic nature of the transfer market,

it is reasonable to assume that elite teams will be interested in signing him.

However, I don’t think this will be clarified in May or even early June; instead,

I think it will probably be in July or August. Although there is a £100 million release clause,

this deal will expire this summer and present a significant opportunity for numerous teams,

it will also be difficult to close in the first few days of the summer transfer window.

“We think the timing will be the really crucial point; at the moment, I’m not aware of any advanced negotiations, but the interest is there, this is the reality. Let’s see if Newcastle can make some money and then invest in other players. We know Financial Fair Play could be important.”

We are still very confident that Bruno stays

It appears like all Romano is saying when you read between the lines is that the £40 million signing from Lyon might depart, which is true of pretty much any player.

Even though FFP is still important for our summer, Newcastle is in a better financial situation than they were a year ago because of their participation in the Champions League,

the beginning of their Adidas contract, and other business agreements they have worked on.

Naturally, there’s always the chance that FFP is dropped altogether, ideally in favor of the ‘luxury tax’ proposal, which will significantly increase Newcastle’s spending capacity and put a stop to the Bruno rumors.

For the time being, we simply have to accept that until we start winning trophies, media will always find a way to associate our best players with a move away.
