Despite only joining Town at the beginning of the season, defender Axel Tuanzebe has made good progress,

according to Blues manager Kieran McKenna.

The 26-year-old, who was released by Manchester United at the end of the previous season, signed shortly after the

summer transfer market closed.

After nearly signing with Luton in the summer, the center-half or right-back joined the Blues while still recuperating

from a back ailment.

Axel Tuanzebe, a defender who joined Town at the beginning of the season, has advanced well,

according to Blues manager Kieran McKenna.

After being cut loose by Manchester United at the end of the previous campaign,

the 26-year-old signed shortly after the summer transfer window closed.

The right-back or center-half, who had been on the verge of signing with Luton during the summer,

joined the Blues while still recuperating from a back injury.

After that, he played sporadically before Christmas but turned in some solid performances and gained strength

through the course of the match, mostly as a right center-back.

“And then, since the New Year’s Day match against Stoke, he has been used quite a bit in what we would call a right-

back position—you could also call it the right of a back three, depending on the stage of the game we’re in.

And he’s done a great job adjusting to that. He has experience with it having played both full-back positions at

Manchester United and Aston Villa early in his career.

“He’s done a great job adjusting to that role. We are now able to utilize some of his strongest skills, such as his one-

on-one defense and ball carrying from deep areas. It has highlighted those traits, and he has made a significant

contribution to the squad. It is advantageous to have that strength, cover, variety, and versatility in those defensive

positions.

McKenna says Tuanzebe, who had had a number in injury-hit seasons before his switch to Portman Road,

has been pleased to play regularly.

“I’m sure he feels much, much better having played the games,” the Blues boss continued.

“I still feel like for a defender he’s relatively young in years – he’s got lots of good years hopefully ahead of him if he

can stay medically fit, and we don’t see any reason why not, he’s doing really, really well from that point of view.

“And also in terms of games played, he’s had some massive experiences in his career,

but he hasn’t accumulated a huge number of games.
