Over the past several weeks, Ipswich has had to cope with a number of injury concerns as its relatively small squad is

put to the test against the rigors of a 46-game Championship season. Regular starters George Hirst and Wes Burns

have both been sidelined for some time due to hamstring problems, but Kieffer Moore, an on-loan striker, was an

unexpected addition for Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Norwich City.

With Watford visiting Portman Road on Wednesday night, the Tractor Boys won’t have much time to reflect on their

derby-day loss. Furthermore, McKenna acknowledges that some of his team members are playing despite

discomfort, pushing them to their absolute limits.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, McKenna described his team’s injury condition as “quite a few, we’re pretty

stretched, I’d say.” A significant number of players are indicating their availability. Wes Burns, George Hirst, and

Janoi Donacien are the only players I believe have long-term injuries; everyone else was in training today. The

availability rate is still fairly high.

“However, the players are making themselves available and putting in a really good physical effort, so I’m sure we’ll

see a really exciting performance tomorrow night. However, there are still some medical and injury concerns around

the camp.”

Although Moore’s participation in the East Anglian derby on Saturday was unexpected and the on-loan striker

appeared off-pace, McKenna thinks his first-choice forward is feeling more rested after being substituted early.

Additionally, it appears that the return of Burns and Hirst before the end of the season will help the Ipswich boss.
