Ipswich visit bitter rivals Norwich plays the Tractor Boys, who are leading the Championship and vying for

promotion to the Premier League, in a crucial East Anglian derby.

“There is no doubt about it, it’s happening – up the Town!”

Upon inquiring about their level of confidence over promotion from the Championship,

I got that response from a fan on Thursday at the Ipswich club shop located on Portman Road.

A different fan raved about the atmosphere at the last few games.

“I’ve been supporting Ipswich since 1953 and I’ve not heard Portman Road like that in a long, long time,” he stated.

He’s talking about the raucous cheers made by the Ipswich supporters at their jubilant moment when Jeremy

Sarmiento skillfully toe-poked a winning goal against Southampton in the 97th minute during their thrilling 3-2

victory on Easter Monday.

The goal felt like a turning point in a thrilling fight for the championship.

It kept Ipswich atop the standings and extended their winning streak to ten league games to nine.

However, Ipswich has had to be exceptionally strong since Leicester and Leeds are chasing them; both teams

demonstrated their strength on Easter Monday by winning significant games of their own.

I thought what the mood must be like before such a demanding stretch of games as I made my way to Ipswich’s

training ground for pre-match media responsibilities ahead of a massive derby against Norwich.

When I got there, I spoke with Cameron Burgess, the center-back for Ipswich and Australia, and I asked him what it

would mean to get promoted to the Premier League.

“Indescribable,” he said.

With six games remaining, though, how do you handle the pressure and the near-expectation of being promoted?

He began by talking about their previous season’s experience and how they were able to advance from League One to

the Championship. They will surely have the confidence to do it again as they approach this crucial stretch of games

because of how they managed to navigate through those closing games.

When I asked about this at his news conference, manager Kieran McKenna gave a similar response. He discussed the

“ethos” he and the team developed as they were promoted to the Championship and how they have carried over the

same work ethic, discipline, and humility into this season, which is why they have been successful thus far.
