Celtic blow as Turkish giants demand record fee for Joe Hart replacement

According to reports, Celtic have been warned that they must smash their transfer record in order to sign their top transfer target during the summer window.

As they attempt to replace Joe Hart this summer, the Hoops are reportedly interested in signing Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.

The former England number one has previously announced that his three-year contract

with Celtic will expire at the end of the current season.

In February, the Hoops goalkeeper stated: “I will be 37 at the end of this season.

I wasn’t sure what route the club wanted to take and whether I fit in with it.

We did not even have that talk. I was definitely not interested in going and trying to  play anywhere else.

So I felt, right, I wanted to be strong and fit and ultimately happy. If there is such a thing,

I feel I am in that place, and I feel like it’s the right time.”

Thoughts have already moved to who will take over as Celtic’s number one goalkeeper next season,

with recent rumors indicating Turkey international Cakir is at the top of their list of objectives as he continues to impress with Trabzonspor.

The 28-year-old has appeared in over 230 Super Lig games and has previously been linked with moves to Newcastle United and Liverpool.

According to a recent Football Scotland story, Hoops CEO Michael Nicholson has’requested permission’

for Brendan Rodgers to speak with the goalkeeper and his agency in order to move on with a £7.5 million deal for the promising stopper.

However, Turkish outlet Kontra Spor has recently offered an update on Cakir’s future,

reporting that Trabzonspor  demand a fee of around £12.5m for their number one – but won’t stand in his way if they received such an offer.

That would surpass the club record fee Celtic set when they paid £10m to Paris Saint-Germain to land Odsonne Eduoard in 2018.
