Update:Sunderland linked with a new double transfer swoop ahead of the summer window
Prior to the summer transfer window, Sunderland has been associated with a double transfer raid led by sporting
director Kristjaan Speakman.
After recent attacking additions Tony Mowbray, Michael Beale, and Mike Dodds failed to live up to expectations this
season, the Black Cats are in need of a striker with goal-scoring ability.
As a result, Sunderland and West Ham striker Divin Mubama have been connected again. Reports from January of
last year indicated that Speakman was interested in the young player.
After failing to come to a contract extension, Mubama, who came up through West Ham’s academy, will become a
free agent at the end of the current campaign. Aji Alese and Pierre Ekwah are two Hammers starlets that Sunderland
has successfully signed in recent seasons.
The transfer fee would be decided by a tribunal if Sunderland were to sign a deal to bring Mubama to the Stadium of
Light in the summer.
Sam Tickle, the goalkeeper for Wigan Athletic, is also being linked to Sunderland as a possible Patterson substitute.
“Checking on” the England under-21 international, who has made 42 appearances for Wigan Athletic in League One
this season, is what Alan Nixon believes the Black Cats are doing right now.
With Nathan Bishop, Sunderland’s backup goalkeeper, still on board following his summer transfer from
Manchester United, the goalkeeping situation at the club offers an intriguing subplot going into the transfer window.
In the summer, Alex Bass is anticipated to return from his loan with AFC Wimbledon.
At the Academy of Light, Sunderland also has a number of highly regarded goalkeepers, including promising players
Matty promising, Dan Cameron, and Adam Richardson.
