On February 27th, Günebakış revealed that Celtic are interested in signing Uğurcan Çakır in the upcoming window.

It was also stated that Brendan Rodgers’ side had inquired about the fee required to transfer the Trabzonspor goalkeeper to Celtic Park.

Fast forward to April, and Akşam details Celtic’s efforts to sign the 28-year-old.

Celtic have reportedly’stepped in’ to sign the stopper and have asked Trabzonspor for permission to negotiate a deal.

Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson is alleged to have sent an email inviting both his agency and lawyers to Glasgow to discuss the potential of a summer deal.

In addition, Celtic have requested permission, most likely from the Süper Lig,

for Rodgers to conduct a video conference conversation with the Turkey international.

There is no mention of whether Trabzonspor granted Celtic permission.

If Celtic can persuade the goalkeeper’s camp, the report claims they are’ready to pay’ £7.5 million to get him in the summer.

Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan does not want to sell the player to another Turkish team,

but is optimistic about potential interest from foreign clubs.

Trabzonspor management plans to make a decision on Çakır’s future, as his contract expires in 2027.

If they sell, they hope to make at least €15 million [£12.8 million], which is more than £5 million more than Celtic are willing to pay.
