Amidst a struggle with Leicester and Ipswich, a defender from Leeds makes an honest admission ahead of the Sunderland match.

Tuesday, April 9th, in the Championship, Sunderland will play Leeds United at Elland Road.

Ethan Appadu, a defender for Leeds, says the team will want to make amends against Sunderland after struggling in a 2-1 loss at Coventry.

With five league games left, Daniel Farke’s team was defeated 2-1 at the CBS Arena, missing the opportunity to move into the automatic promotion spots. When the Whites play Sunderland at Elland Road on Tuesday, they will now try to react.

Leeds had not lost a league game in fifteen Championship games prior to the 2024 match against Coventry. With two games behind leaders Leicester and a point behind Ipswich, Farke’s team is now third in the standings.

“After the Coventry game, we’re disappointed, but we’re disappointed at ourselves,” Ampadu said to LUTV. “Well, we got off to a good start in the first half, playing well on the offensive end, but we kind of lost our way and may not have done a good enough job of defending the set piece, so we raised our hands.

“One of the best things about football is that we can make amends on Tuesday. Nobody would have claimed that we were promoted if we had prevailed today. However, both the performance and the outcome were regrettably insufficient. We attempted to press because the second half was better. Though occasionally a late goal can change the mood, I believe that on Tuesday we want to go back and make amends.”

After their goalless draw with Bristol City, Sunderland will enter the game ranked 13th in the standings.
