We are happy to welcome Dr. Daniel Plumley, an expert in football finance, as our exclusive columnist. Dan will

share his thoughts on the most important topics at Rangers each week. Dan has insisted that after meeting with the

SFA earlier, Rangers needed to issue a statement warning fans about pyrotechnics.

After meeting with the SFA and Police Scotland, the Ibrox club released an official statement on December 3

acknowledging that sanctions may be on the way. The finance expert revealed that recurrent infractions may

eventually result in a deduction of points, with the initial penalties likely

to have a negative financial impact on the club.

The club must make a firm statement in order to negotiate with the authorities. “It will hurt the club in the pocket,

first and foremost. We’ve seen sanctions applied for fan disorder and fan behavior throughout the history, as well as

for pitch invasions in the English game.

“If this continued, you would be anticipating fines at the absolute least. However, you might also be talking about

point deductions, and discussions about how to stop this kind of thing have taken place.

“In the end, the supporters suffer more from the points loss than from the financial implications, so I’m not

suggesting it will get to that point, but if it continues, more fines and penalties will come into play.

“The club needs to make that statement public. If it persists, it will at the very least cost the club financially, but you

don’t want to take the chance of something more serious.”

In other Rangers news, Plumley has stated that the team might claim they lost out after a transaction worth more than £900 million was approved.
