Following Michael Beale’s catastrophic appointment earlier in the season,

Sunderland has been slow to identify a replacement manager. However,

a number of names have been linked to the position with the Black Cat

After taking over from Tony Mowbray in December,

Beale managed just 12 games at the Stadium of Light before being fired.

During that time, the Mackems won just four games and were eliminated from postseason contention.

Though recent results won’t have done much to lighten the mood in the northeast,

Mike Dodds was named temporary manager until the end of the season as the Wearsiders attempted to steady the ship before choosing their new leader.

While Paul Heckingbottom, Will Still,

and Danny Röhl are rumored to be discussing their future appointment,

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former manager of Manchester United,

is another well-known name on the bookies’ odds list.

Palmer: Solskjaer ‘would be a good recruitment’ for Sunderland

Since his three-year tenure as manager of the Red Devils ended in 2021 following a string of losses to begin the 21/22 season,

the Norwegian has not been employed.

The 51-year-old, who is most known for his Champions League-winning goal against Bayern Munich in the 1999 final, has managed Molde in his own country before,

where he won two national league titles. He also had a disastrous tenure as Cardiff City’s manager in 2014.

Former Sheffield Wednesday player Carlton Palmer thinks the

“Baby Faced Assassin” might be the one to turn things around on Wearside next season,

despite his lack of recent managerial experience.

Palmer, in an exclusive interview with FLW, stated:

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hasn’t worked since he was fired as Manchester United’s manager in 2021,

after three years on the team.

“Obviously, Solskjaer won’t cost them any money,

so the real question is whether Ole would be interested in working under the constraints that Sunderland wants to have.

This entails paying cheap money to sign relatively inexperienced players and then selling them for high prices.

“Sunderlands is a big club, and Ole would obviously want to get back into management.”
