Nathan Patterson Newcastle united, Rangers to Everton transfer questioned after Toffees’ point deduction for FFP breach

According to Jamie Carragher, Nathan Patterson’s move from Rangers to Everton should have been halted if the Premier League was concerned about Everton’s financial situation.

The Toffees received a 10-point deduction yesterday after being deemed to have violated Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules by running a £19.5 million deficit.

Despite a strong run under Sean Dyche, they are now second from bottom in the table and face another relegation battle.

Liverpool star Carragher, who grew up in Everton, believes the punishment is harsh and unfair,

arguing that a transfer embargo or a fine would have sufficed.Nathan Patterson

The former England centre-back has been critical of the club’s management under Farhad Moshiri, but he still has his sympathies.

The commentator has also brought up Patterson’s and Vitalii Mykolenko’s transfers,

which were both worth roughly £30 million. He wonders why that was allowed to happen

when the EPL was working with Everton to ensure they followed the regulations.

Carragher wrote in the Telegraph, “I agree with Evertonians that the 10-point penalty is extremely harsh given the circumstances.”

“There is no doubt Everton has broken the regulations, and no one has been more critical of how the club has been operated than me.

Farhad Moshiri’s reign has been terrible from start to finish, assuming his sale goes through.

“My sympathies are extended since they have been the complete opposite of this.

It’s difficult to understand how the Premier League could be working with a club to ensure compliance while watching them sign Nathan Patterson and Vitalii Mykolenko

for a combined fee of around £30 million in January 2022,

only to claim the club had lost around £20 million too much.

“Why not intervene at that point?”
