Crisis-stricken Three teams are vying for automatic promotion from the Championship,

but off-field turmoil may be more of a concern for Leicester City than that.

Not only is the Premier League anticipating an intriguing three-horse race for the championship in the coming weeks,

but the Championship is also hosting a compelling three-way contest between Leicester City, Leeds United,

and Ipswich Town for the two automatic promotion slots.

Unbelievably, in one of the most competitive promotion races in recent memory,

all three teams might end with more than 100 points.

There are stories aplenty in the Championship, as usual, but Leicester’s push for promotion is taking place against an

unclear backdrop due to recent events at the King Power Stadium.

This is due to the possibility that Enzo Maresca’s team will enter the 2024–2025 season with a point deficit,

regardless of the league in which they play.

The Foxes, who took home the FA Cup three years ago and the Premier League in 2016 respectively,

have suffered significant financial setbacks in recent years, and it seems that the bill is now well overdue.

The club was accused of breaking profit and sustainability guidelines (PSR),

and this week they revealed staggering losses of £89.7 million for the 2022–2023 season.

As a result, their losses over the previous three seasons have exceeded £215 million.

According to regulations, top-tier teams are not allowed to lose more than £105 million in a three-year rolling

period.

The sales of James Maddison to Spurs for £40 million and Wesley Fofana to Chelsea for £70 million were included

in this most recent set of records. Both transactions were completed before to the June 30 deadline.

If the club intends to generate a profit this summer, more sales will probably be required before June 30.

This season, PSR violations have cost both Everton and Nottingham Forest points.

Although the Foxes’ accusation was filed too late to be considered and maybe addressed this year,

it is possible that they will begin the 2024–2025 Premier League season with a deficit.

If Maresca‘s team is unsuccessful in their attempt to advance, they may also lose points when the Championship

season begins the following year. Following the Premier League’s charge, the EFL imposed a transfer embargo on the

Foxes. In response, Leicester filed lawsuits against the EFL and the Premier League.

The team moved to explain their massive loss from their latest financial statements, blaming a lack of European

football, the expense of firing Brendan Rodgers last year, and a decline in prize money as they dropped from eighth

place to eighteenth.

So while supporters brace themselves for an incredible on-field conclusion to the Championship season,

the Foxes are engaged in a fierce rivalry off it as well.
