Fulham manager Marco Silva accused Newcastle United of purposely stalling his team’s momentum when Martin Dubravka needed physio treatment in the first half.

The Magpies prevailed 1-0 at Craven Cottage thanks to Bruno Guimaraes’ 81st-minute strike, but the visitors were fortunate to go into halftime goalless after Fulham dominated the first 45 minutes.

Silva emphasized the moment United goalie Dubravka collapsed. While the Slovakian was being treated for a leg injury, Eddie Howe collected his team and looked to offer some tough words from the sideline.

“Some moments Newcastle tried to break our momentum with the goalkeeper twice and players on the grass,” Silva went on to say. “They struggled at some occasions during the first half.

“Indeed, it was tactical. The first one is evident. They advised the goalkeeper to go down. When the goalkeeper goes down, the referee must restart the game; otherwise, the game cannot continue. It was a tactical decision by them.

“This was Eddie’s decision. “No comments on that.”

However, Howe denied allegations that Dubravka feigned an ailment.

When asked if that was a premeditated ploy, Howe replied: “No. Martin Dubravka felt something in his leg, and we told him to go down if he felt anything. But it gave us  a chance to get the group in and that was much needed at that moment in the game.

“Martin’s injury gave us a chance to recover and concentrate, because the game can get away from you quickly. But it was a shift in attitude, as well as some excellent players.

Newcastle have won their previous six games against Fulham and are unbeaten in ten. Despite the victory, Howe’s side remains seventh in the Premier League table, with West Ham United winning against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
