Despite recent trade rumors, LeBron James has stated that he wants to conclude his illustrious career with the Los Angeles Lakers.

While James’ average of 24.8 points per game this season is lower than last season’s 28.9, the NBA’s all-time top scorer has continued to dazzle despite a nagging ankle ailment in his 21st season in the league.

He has missed only seven of Los Angeles’ 56 games in 2023-24, and he helped the team win the inaugural NBA in-season tournament in December.

James has a $51.4 million player option with the Lakers for 2024-25, but he recently stated that he was indecisive about whether to exercise it.

That sparked suspicion that he would be available, as his current team had calls from the Golden State Warriors and the Philadelphia 76ers before of the trade deadline earlier this month.

However, the 39-year-old remained put, and speaking ahead of his record-breaking 20th appearance in the NBA‘s All-Star Game on Sunday, he offered his clearest signal yet that he sees his future in Los Angeles.

“I’m pleased to be a Laker. “I’ve been very happy being a Laker for the last six years, and I hope that continues,” James added.

“I’m not sure how long it will be or what uniform I’ll be wearing, but ideally it will be with the Lakers. It’s a fantastic organization with so many greats, but we’ll see.

Warriors player Draymond Green reportedly encouraged team owner Joe Lacob to inquire about a blockbuster trade for James, but he claims he had no involvement in any negotiations with Golden State.

“I actually heard about it when everybody else heard about it,” James told TNT Sports of their enthusiasm.

“Sometimes there are conversations that take place behind closed doors that you are unaware of, and they will bring it to your attention if it is true or not. “It never even reached me.”

Looking ahead, James understands that his sparkling career will soon come to an end, but he has yet to decide how he would bid farewell to the NBA.

When asked if he would announce his retirement in advance to receive a suitable send-off, James replied, “I’m 50-50, to be honest.

“I was asked a few days ago, ‘Will you take the farewell tour, or will you just Tim Duncan it?'”

“There are moments when I feel like I owe it to my fans who have been with me for two decades to be able to give them that moment in every location where they give you flowers or whatever it is. That seems cool.

“But, on the other hand, I’ve never been excellent at accepting accolades. It’s a strange feeling for me. I’m not sure how it will finish, but it’s coming. It’s definitely coming.”
