Postecoglou: Champions League Qualification Won’t Solve All Tottenham’s Problems

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has asserted that achieving Champions League qualification will not resolve all of the club’s issues. He raised doubts about the impact of such qualification by questioning whether it has aided Newcastle United this season.

“We’re not banks, we’re football clubs,” stated Postecoglou, emphasizing that the focus should not solely be on financial gains. “I don’t get measured by the balance sheet at the end of the year.”

He stressed that his role is to create a squad capable of competing in the Champions League, improving in the Premier League, and achieving success in cup competitions. “Champions League, great. Money, great. Does that mean we’re going to finish third next year? No. In fact, it is probably going to be more challenging,” Postecoglou remarked.

Postecoglou highlighted the importance of prudent decision-making, coaching, and player development, suggesting that success on the pitch requires more than financial resources alone. “How much money you make is not why you get into the Champions League; it is what you do with that money,” he emphasized.

Referencing Newcastle United’s Champions League qualification last year, Postecoglou questioned whether it had resulted in tangible benefits this season. “So if I ask you, Newcastle made the Champions League last year, did it help them this year?” he asked, indicating the complexities involved in measuring success solely by financial metrics.
