We discuss Archie Gray’s valuation as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid scout the Leeds United player.

Archie Gray is being coveted by a rising number of clubs, including Bayern Munich and Real Madrid,

so Leeds United may have to fight to hang onto him.

With his remarkable year, the 18-year-old has become an indispensable member of Daniel Farke’s team as

they aim for automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

Although Gray played central midfield in his academy days,

he has settled into the starting lineup as a right-back.

His calmness on the ball and his fierce defense have impressed.

That form has naturally drawn interest;

earlier reports suggested that Spurs and Liverpool were keeping an eye on the teenager.

More recently, it was made public that scouts from European powerhouses Real Madrid and

Bayern Munich were present when Gray participated in the entire game during Leeds’ 3-1 victory against Hull City on Easter Monday.

Archie Gray’s transfer value

There is a belief that Gray will remain at Elland Road if they win promotion, as they’re a club close to his heart due to his family connections.

Championship Table (As it stands April 3rd)
Team P GD Pts
1 Ipswich Town 40 33 87
2 Leeds United 40 44 86
3 Leicester City 39 42 85
4 Southampton 38 25 74

Nothing is impossible, though,

and the opportunity to play for the all-time European Cup winners or the German powerhouses will undoubtedly be alluring.

Naturally, when a team doesn’t improve, things go different too,

and the club might have to sell Gray in order to prepare for a season below the top division.

In any case, it appears that Leeds’ perseverance will be put to the test when the transfer market opens,

but what kind of price should they want for the player? Our contributors express their opinions here.

If Leeds advance, the transfer would cost at least £50 million, but even if they stay in the Championship,

he would need to be paid more than £35 million.

Some would contend that the financial woes of many Premier League clubs will drive down prices in the summer window,

but Gray is expected to join an elite club where money isn’t really an issue.

Given the young player’s exceptional talent, Elland Road will require a premium cost to entice him away,

and those kinds of sums would fit the bill.

For someone who has only played in one Championship football season, it might seem like a lot,

but anyone who has watched Gray play will understand that he is headed for the top.

Jude Bellingham is an illustration of the caliber of player the Championship can produce,

and while his contract may be compared to Gray’s,

it’s important to remember that Birmingham was in a significantly more difficult financial situation than Leeds.

Leeds is aware that they have a genuine potential in Archie Gray,

and if the 18-year-old is to leave Elland Road, a large sum will be required to get him.

Leeds could anticipate more for Jude Bellingham than

the £25 million Birmingham paid for him when he transferred to Borussia Dortmund in 2020.

Bellingham is the obvious comparison. One reason is the way the market has risen since then,

and another is Leeds’s excellent financial standing and abundance of sellable Championship assets.

Of course, that £25 million would double if promotion is attained.

However, if Leeds keeps Gray in the Premier League for a whole season and he continues to

improve by scoring goals and dishing out assists, there’s a very scary potential value for him.

Leeds won’t be able to price a transfer for the adolescent due to the caliber of clubs vying for him,

but if they win promotion, they will be able to demand whatever they want because he has a contract that expires in the summer of 2028.

To be honest, you wouldn’t be shocked if Gray ended up leaving

Elland Road for a club record that was more than what they got for Raphinha back in the summer of 2022.
