Everything Celtic defender Liam Scales stated before Sunday’s game against Rangers at Ibrox

What is the team’s mood ahead of the season’s biggest game?

It is fortunate that we are preparing properly this week. We had an entire week to train and prepare for it.

We’re feeling fantastic, doing everything right, and getting ready for the weekend.

Are your squad and personnel in top shape for this match?

Yes, absolutely. People are regaining fitness, and we are approaching a stage in which midweek games have slowed and we have full weeks to prepare for games.

This has given us a bit of a respite and it has been good for us.

How do you see the implications of this match for the title race, given how tight it is at the top? How important would a win be?

It’s crucial for the title chase. It does not determine the title. There are still plenty of games to play following the break.

It is undoubtedly quite significant. A victory would be important for us.

We understand this, but it is not the deciding factor. It’s three points like every other game, and we’re treating it as such.

Is there more pressure on the Rangers?

I do not think so. It’s quite equal. It is so tight that no matter which way it travels, there is equal pressure on us both.

You’ve already won two games in this fixture and played in both of them. How did you find the experiences?

Mental. The first person at Ibrox to be tossed into that was insane. I couldn’t catch my breath for ten minutes.

I got into the game and settled in. We had good results in each of them. It’s an excellent game to be a part of.

I’m really looking forward to it again. As a footballer, you want to play in this type of game. It is among the largest in international football.

Is that the first game in your career where you couldn’t catch your breath because it was unlike anything you’d ever played before?

Yes,I’d say it is. The intensity of it and the atmosphere inside the ground have a lot to do with it.

It was probably the most intense game I have played in. It is up there with the Champions League games,

I suppose, in terms of intensity and you have that rivalry there which makes it intense.

After playing both of those games and winning, particularly the one at Ibrox,

are you in a different place now than you were when you entered that first match at Ibrox?

I have some familiarity with it already, which helps. At the same time,

I’m still preparing for it in the same way I did for the previous match months ago. I know what to expect now, which will help me.

Given where you are in the title chase with seven games remaining, does this seem like the biggest of your career?

They’re all big. Probably near the end of the season, they do get a little more intense, especially when it is this tight. So probably, yes.

In terms of where the team is at the minute are you in a good place because you are getting players back fit and the results you have had over the last couple of weeks?

Aside from the Hearts game, we’ve been on a nice run, scoring a lot of goals and keeping a clean sheet over the weekend,

which was great. We’ve recently battled to get a string of clean linens, so we’re trying to bring that with us.

We’re in a fantastic spot; guys are returning from injuries, and we have a full roster of fit players, so things are looking up for us.

How much of a lift do players like Cameron (Carter-Vickers), Callum (McGregor), Reo Hatate,

and Alistair Johnston get when they return?

It’s fantastic that they’re skilled gamers with plenty of expertise in this game.

It’s huge for us to have as strong a squad as possible and even if they weren’t here we have guys more than capable of filling in.

That helps a lot.

That must give you confidence because, in past games against Rangers,

you had key players absent but still managed to win, didn’t you?

Yes. It’s a difficult game regardless your fitness level. We simply have to go with what we have,

which is what we’ve done so far this season. We’re looking forward to it.

What is it like knowing Callum is fit, especially having him play in front of you,

and what does he add to the squad and yourself knowing he is there?

He is huge for us. He is our leader, which is beneficial mentally because you will be accompanying your captain.

That is massive for us. He is a top,

top player and he is so good at controlling the tempo of the game and that is going to be key for us.

He is a huge player to have in fixtures like ”this.
