Carlton Palmer has offered his thoughts as Sunderland are linked with Wigan Athletic’s Sam Tickle.

Sunderland had yet another reality check on Monday,

following a nine-match winless streak that was ended on Good Friday

with an away victory at Cardiff City.

Blackburn Rovers, the Championship’s struggling team,

thrashed the Black Cats, winning 5-1 on the road in front of about 40,000 fans

at the Stadium of Light. It was an embarrassing loss for the home team.

With six games remaining, Sunderland is currently 13th in the Championship rankings,

13 points outside of the top six and a play-off spot.

It is safe to assume at this stage that the Black Cats will not be promoted

this season and that could have big consequences for the club this summer.

Sunderland eyeing Sam Tickle as Anthony Patterson replacement

Sam Tickle, the goalkeeper for Wigan Athletic, is the player that

the Black Cats are allegedly interested in.

The Black Cats are reportedly checking on the England under-21 international,

according to Alan Nixon on Patreon.

Nixon said Sunderland is interested in Tickle because

they “fear” that there will be summer bids for Anthony Patterson.

The goalkeeper has previously been connected to teams like Nottingham Forest,

Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal.

Like Patterson, the 22-year-old Latics goalie is having a breakout season.

He has made 47 appearances in all competitions this season.

But given that Everton and Birmingham City are among the other teams linked,

they won’t likely be the only ones in the competition.

Given the interest in some of their key players,

former England international midfielder and pundit Carlton Palmer thinks

Sunderland may be in for a difficult season ahead of them,

but he also thinks Tickle would be a good addition.

Palmer told FLW that Sunderland will have a difficult summer

in the transfer market because they won’t be promoted this year.

Anthony Patterson, who has been excellent for Sunderland,

is one of the players who will be looking for a move.

Many of their stars will be wanting to move on to Premier League clubs.

“He’s been connected to multiple Premier League teams,

so if they don’t advance, they’ll be sure to find him.”

Sam Tickle, who has been making an impression at Wigan,

has been considered by Sunderland as a potential replacement.

Sam has been viewed by a number of teams,

including Everton and Birmingham City.

“Sam will be considering where he would go to play first team football because,

as we’ve seen with Anthony Patterson,

who is only 22 and has been a regular in the first team for a long team,

Sunderland would be a great place to go.

Obviously, a goalkeeper doesn’t want to go and sit on a bench

when they’ve been playing regular football.
